Selecting Team Members

by Richard Waialeale on October 28, 2021

Scripture

"As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, ʻFollow Me.' So he arose and followed Him." (Mark 2:14)

Observation

Can you imagine how Jesus put together the most important team ever assembled?  Jesus chose specific individuals for specific roles.  He chose the unlikely and developed them to reach their potential.  And He chose an odd player  — Levi (Matthew) — to add to the mix.

One thing I noticed about the way Jesus selected His team:  He never felt bound by human opinion or approval.  He didn’t judge by externals.  He treated individuals based on their future potential rather than their present status.

Application

In the next several weeks I will be administering a GDGS Online class that will require a team of shepherds.  As I search for people to help me with this class, there are a couple of things to consider as I develop the team of shepherds and anyone else to help with GDGS:

  1. Do these individuals show initiative?
  2. Are these individuals hungry to become something more than what they are now?
  3. Are these people positive in their behavior?
  4. Are these individuals excited about being a part of NHO?
  5. Could these individuals play a needed part on the team?

It’s not so much that I will build this team of leaders as much as it will be God building and God Honoring.

Prayer

Father, I pray that You give me favor in building this team of shepherds and leaders to help me with GDGS.  I pray that with Your help I can teach and lead everyone into understanding what New Hope Oahu is all about, its heart and values, and love for Jesus and people.  Amen.
