Seen and Heard

by Justin Smith on January 28, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

“As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

Acts 4:20

OBSERVATION:

A mission has been ordered, a calling has been assigned, and a purpose has been established by God for His people to “go” and “make disciples”. This isn’t a Sunday church thing; rather it’s a life thing. You have been sent on this mission, sent to tell people about Jesus…so how have you been doing? In Acts 4 we discover that Peter and John had been faithfully fulfilling this call, testifying to Jesus’ resurrection, and it’s landed them in jail. In fact, they were commanded to no longer speak about Jesus, and their response, “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Fueled by their mission, empowered by the Holy Spirit, convicted by God, they were committed to testify no matter the cost.

APPLICATION:

You and I have been issued this same mission to evangelize, so the question again arises, “how have you been doing”? If we were honest, I’m sure most of us feel like we don’t even know where to start, what to say, or even feel equipped to speak up, and today I’m grateful for this lesson from Peter and John who gave us the first step: share what you have experienced…“speaking about what we have seen and heard”. We can do that!

1. Testify about what you’ve experienced…testify to His healing, share about His provision, and speak about His comfort and love.

2. Commit to daily devotions because, as Jesus reveals things through His Word, you can then speak about what you have learned and experienced in that time.

3. Pray and ask God to give you a passion to testify, a boldness to speak up, and the opportunity to share and see what He does.

PRAYER:

Jesus, thank You for Your saving grace in my life, for Your blessings, and for Your daily provision. You have been so close, so evident, and so real in my life, so please help me to speak about what I have seen and heard. Grant me a passion to testify, boldness to speak up, and the opportunity to share what I have seen and heard that You might be honored and that many might be encouraged. In Your name, Amen.
