SCRIPTURE:
1Declare me innocent, O Lord, for I have acted with integrity; I have trusted in the Lord without wavering. 2 Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart. 3 For I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth. 4 I do not spend time with liars or go along with hypocrites. 5 I hate the gatherings of those who do evil, and I refuse to join in with the wicked. 6 I wash my hands to declare my innocence. I come to your altar, O Lord, 7 singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders.
Psalm 26:1-7
OBSERVATION:
David wrote this as a personal prayer. He speaks honestly before God and invites Him to look closely—into his heart and his mind. David isn’t claiming perfection; he’s expressing trust. He knows his life is anchored in God’s unfailing love and faithfulness, and that gives him the courage to ask God to examine him.
What stands out is David’s willingness to be searched. He opens his life fully to the Lord.
APPLICATION:
This reminds me to pause and do a heart check—often.
To sit quietly before the Lord and ask Him to search me the way David did.
It keeps me humble. It keeps me honest. It keeps my heart soft. It steers pride away. It steers sin away. It prevents my heart from hardening.
When I invite God to examine my motives, my thoughts, and my choices, I’m reminded that integrity matters even when no one else sees. A clean heart leads to genuine worship and a life that reflects His faithfulness. I have a habit of at the end of the day, in my mind I go through my day. I ask the Lord to reveal areas where I’ve fallen short, and areas He is asking me to repent of, or to ask forgiveness for. In fact if the Lord says to me to call someone and ask for forgiveness because of my actions, I do so without hesitation. I’m asking the Lord to check my heart and what He says is the final word.
PRAYER:
Lord, search my heart today.
Show me anything that doesn’t look like You.
Thank You for Your unfailing love that gives me the freedom to be honest before You.
Help me walk in humility and integrity, fully dependent on You.
Amen.
