Rooted and Suited

SCRIPTURE:

“Do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.”
Romans 11:18

OBSERVATION:

Today I’m reminded of my proper place and posture in God’s plan. It humbles the heart and corrects the pride that can sneak in unnoticed. The image of a tree, it’s branches and roots, show a practical example to me that I’m not self-made or self-sustained. It’s the exact opposite. Some may admire the beauty of the final product, the beautiful plumeria or the sweetness of the mango, but few stop to honor the unseen root. It is the root that gives life, strength, and purpose to every visible and viable part of the plant. Without it, the branch cannot survive, without it I can’t survive. let alone produce any fruit.

APPLICATION:

I must stay connected to the root, Jesus Christ. I can confidently move forward with hope knowing that when I’m rooted, I’m suited, ready to go, powered by the Holy Spirit.  When I’m connected to the root I’m supported, sustained, and strengthened by Christ alone.  May everything I do be rooted in Christ. May I never confuse the fruit with the source.

PRAYER:

Jesus, keep me rooted to You. Let me not grow proud or distracted by outward success or visible growth. Posture me constantly to know that You are the root that holds and gives life to all. May my heart never drift of mission from the true source of life, grace, and hope, You alone, Let all that I do be for Your perfect glory and in Your perfect strength. Amen
