Right Man for the Job

by John Tilton on May 19, 2025

SCRIPTURE:

"Send me, therefore, a man skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, and in purple, crimson and blue yarn, and experienced in the art of engraving, to work in Judah and Jerusalem with my skilled craftsmen, whom my father David provided.”  "I am sending you Huram-Abi, a man of great skill, whose mother was from Dan and whose father was from Tyre. He is trained to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, and with purple and blue and crimson yarn and fine linen. He is experienced in all kinds of engraving and can execute any design given to him. He will work with your craftsmen and with those of my Lord, David your father.”
2 Chronicles 2:7 & 13-14

OBSERVATION:

In Solomon’s wisdom, he knew that in order for him to build a temple that was worthy and of quality to honor the Lord, he needed to have the right men for the job; men that were skilled and experienced in the areas of work that would be required.  In verse 13, Solomon shows how he was not apprehensive of asking for the best from Hiram of Tyre.  His requests were specific and showed his forethought and planning.  He also planned to have those sent my Hiram work as a team with Solomon’s skilled craftsmen.

APPLICATION:

We have been so blessed at New Hope to see how God has and continues use our gifts and talents to take His gospel forth, ministering to the saved and unsaved in our services and events.  It is so easy to fall into a routine and even complacency when things are going well; believing that our services and events are fully honoring to the Lord.  May we not rest on our laurels and past success, by continue to give God our best, with excellence, for His glory.

These scriptures are a great reminder to me that all that we do for God should be done with a quality and excellence, that would honor Him; requiring us to plan, prepare, and choose the right skilled people for the assignment.  May we not be hesitant to ask for help in building teams or looking for gifted people in specific areas of expertise and talent.  May create an environment where people can come together to work as a team and use the opportunity in what we are doing to grow in our faith and relationship.  May we be team builders for Christ.

PRAYER:

Lord, your daily Word is such a blessing in teaching, re-affirming, correcting, and leadership.  May I not fall into routine ways and complacency, thinking that excellence will always prevail without my consorted effort to do my best in all that I am called to in serving you.  May I always recalibrate back to “why” I am doing what I am doing, and “who” I am doing it for – “an audience of one.”  Jesus!  May I be the right man for the right purpose in doing things in the right way for your glory.
