Reboot vs. Renew

by Fred Alcain on July 11, 2025

SCRIPTURE:

"By calling this covenant ‘new,’ he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear."
Hebrews 8:13

OBSERVATION:

A new covenant introduced through Jesus Christ; a pivotal shift from the old covenant based on the law, to a new covenant rooted in grace, mercy and direct access to God the Father through the Son Jesus. The old system, while once vital, is now being phased out. This new covenant isn't merely an update to click on like an iOs but a new device, a complete transformation that redefines the relationship between God and His people. God Himself initiated this change, signaling that the old covenant no longer holds the same authority or function.

APPLICATION:

God is always working to bring renewal and transformation. Just as He replaced the old covenant with a new and better one, He also invites me to leave behind outdated ways of thinking, acting, or believing that no longer serve His purpose in my life. To reassess and reenergize, to put cause over comfort.  I canʻt settle for a reboot, I need a renewing. Sometimes I hold tightly to routines, mindsets in the name of legacy or tradition.  God’s not calling me to let go or change for the sake of change, but rather look to Him for the inspiration that leads to transformation. I need to embrace the freedom and access I have to Jesus through prayer and devotion and to approach Him without fear, to live by grace, and to stop clinging to old patterns that have become spiritually obsolete in my life, that have become comfortable in my life. I need to trust God's process of change, even when it means stepping out of the familiar.

PRAYER:

Jesus, thank You for making a new way to a new hope. Thank You that I no longer have to rely on rituals or rules to draw near to You,. Help me to let go of the old things in my life that no longer reflect who I am in You and the manaʻo to discern what is outdated and the wiwoʻole to fully step into the new hope You've provided. I mua me ka pono. Amene
