SCRIPTURE:
The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?”
Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
Acts 8:34–35
OBSERVATION:
Philip is a picture of spiritual readiness and obedience. He didn’t orchestrate this divine encounter—God did. Philip simply followed God’s instructions, even when they didn’t make sense. He left a successful ministry in Samaria to walk a desert road, not knowing who he would meet or why it mattered.
When the Ethiopian eunuch asked a sincere question, Philip listened first, and was ready. He knew the Scriptures. And when the moment opened, Philip didn’t preach himself or give opinions—he pointed the eunuch directly to Jesus. He met the eunuch exactly where he was, starting with the passage already in his hands, and led him to the truth of the gospel. I love this!
Philip didn’t need a stage, a title, or a crowd. He just needed a willing heart, a listening ear, and a readiness to speak when God prompted him.
APPLICATION:
I must be ready whenever the Lord has a need for me. Ready to go when He says go.
Ready to listen before I speak. Ready with God’s Word, not just my own thoughts. This means I must continually be a learner, understanding deeper the Word of God.
Divine moments often come without warning. God may ask me to show up in ordinary places, at unexpected times, with people who are simply asking honest questions. My responsibility isn’t to create the moment—it’s to be available when it arrives.
Just the other day I was in the auditorium at church and a young man came up to me and said, “I have a question.” I said, “Sure!” He said, “What’s the answer?” I said, “The answer? To what?” And he said, “What’s the answer to Point # 1 in our sermon notes?” I had to laugh because I thought he was going to ask me a serious biblical question, (and I was ready! LOL) but instead he just wanted to know the answer to the fill-in-the-blank on the sermon notes.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me live ready. Ready to obey, ready to listen, and ready to speak when You open the door. Fill my heart with Your Word so that when someone asks, I can point them to Jesus without hesitation. Use me wherever You place me, even when I don’t see the full picture.
Amen.
