SCRIPTURE:
“When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, ‘Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.’ But Simon answered and said to Him, ‘Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your word I will let down the net.’”
Luke 5:4-5
OBSERVATION:
Simon and the others fishing had spent all night fishing and caught nothing. However, when Jesus instructed them to go out into the deeper waters and let down their nets in order to catch fish, Simon responded with a willing and obedient yes. First, I noted that Jesus didn’t say to see if you’ll catch fish, but rather, you will catch fish. Jesus knew what the outcome would be and probably intended Simon to have more faith and therefore act in obedience. Second, Simon’s reasoning seemed plausible having fished all night without a catch. In addition, going deeper and letting down one’s net is not the usual solution for fishing when there seems to be a scarcity. Yet, Simon followed because of Jesus’ word. In other words, Simon responded because of His acknowledgement of who Jesus was in calling him Master.
APPLICATION:
I consider myself a person of reason, fact, evidence, and substantiation in matters considering what information and facts are and say. These scriptures prompt me to be mindful that with Jesus and His word; we are dealing with the heavenly realm and hand of God. Thus, I must be willing to let go of reason to see the hand and miracles of God in faith and obedience. Sometimes, it won’t make sense, but with Jesus it is possible and doable. I believe that obedience is often our act of faith that we believe in the impossible through the power and name of Jesus Christ. May 2026 be a year of purpose and possibilities.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, I thank you Jesus and that all things are possible through you, Lord. Although reason is a process of our mind, may my faith in you supersede what my mind might often limit me to. May I walk in obedience and faith to see and realize all that you have in store for me.
