SCRIPTURE:
“Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.””
Genesis 18:14
OBSERVATION:
My mind knows that God can do the impossible, but if I were honest, sometimes my heart struggles with believing. I can remember times in life where, in the moment, it seemed like my prayers were going unheard and unanswered, times where life just seemed unfair, and times where it felt like God was far away. But, even though my heart might have felt this way, I now look back and realize God came through…every time, God answered…every time, and God was right there working things out every time. This came to mind as I read Genesis 18 and was reminded that nothing is too hard for the Lord. Abraham and Sarah were given news that Sarah would have a son with Abraham near 100 years old and Sarah near 90. We’re told that Sarah laughed “within herself” in disbelief because the circumstances told her this situation was both inconceivable and impossible. God, knowing her inner thoughts, rebuked her and declared “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” God’s promise came to pass, and Sarah bore a son whom they would name Isaac. There are so many incredible lessons to learn from this story:
- God’s Word and promises are guaranteed. What He says will always come to pass, thus every promise in His Word is my reality if I choose to trust and believe.
- God knows all and sees all. We’re told that Sarah laughed “within herself”, but God knew her innermost doubts and disbeliefs. How different would life look if I truly realized that God knows all and sees all?
- God’s power is limitless. God’s plan wasn’t limited by the circumstances of their age, His plan wasn’t limited by what the world said was possible, and His plan wasn’t limited by Sarah’s doubt and lack of faith. His power isn’t limited by any of these factors so acknowledge it, praise Him for it, and fully trust.
- Nothing is too hard for God.
APPLICATION:
Today, I rejoice in the fact that there is literally no situation too big, no struggle too hard, and no challenge too difficult that He can’t overcome…and I choose to believe! I choose to walk by faith even when things seem grim. Today, I choose to walk in trust and will surrender every worry, fear, and care knowing that He is more than able!
PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You so much for this reminder. You are more than able to handle anything that comes my way. You are worthy of my praise, You are worthy of my trust, and You are worthy of my belief because nothing is too hard for You. Help me in my unbelief that I might honor You with my faith and see You move. In Your name, Amen.
