"Do you have an arm like God’s, and can your voice thunder like his? Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty." (Job 40:9-10)
The Story of Job is one of the oldest in the bible. Job lived in a time before Abraham. Job had no bible, and there was no covenant with God. Job did not have a written word to tell him about God. All he had was oral tradition and what he could observe in the world. Job lived before a covenant was made with Abraham. Job lived between the fall of Adam and the covenant of the law. Job was not aware there was an adversary who was coming against him. He thought it was God coming against him.
Sometimes we compare ourselves to Job, but there is no comparison. The reason there is no comparison is not because of the hardship, but because of the covenant of grace and the Holy Spirit. We are living in a post-sacrifice world, which is even better than the world of the Old Testament covenant. I cannot imagine walking without the love, comfort, and power of the Holy Spirit.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your Holy Spirit. Thank you for the gifts you give even when we do not deserve it. I am grateful. In Jesus' name, amen.
