New Creation

SCRIPTURE:

“He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Revelation 21:5

OBSERVATION:

God speaks directly from His throne, letting John know that He is making everything new.  While He speaks of a new heaven and a new earth, I can’t help but think about the life I live here and now on THIS earth, and the new that is spoken of as a follower of Jesus:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

I wonder what may have been going on in John’s mind that God had to remind him to “write this down.”  Perhaps shock, amazement or even skepticism?  Maybe all?

APPLICATION:

When I first said Yes to Jesus I was on fire for the Lord, but as time went on it was as if a part of me forgot.  Gradually I would slip back into the old – old thinking patterns, old habits and old ways.

While I would occasionally do my devotions, there wasn’t much “writing down” when it came to my walk with Christ.  Years later as I got deeper in my relationship with Jesus and began doing my devotions every day, I would start to write down what The Lord was speaking to me.

Those daily written conversations with The Lord would become my reminders when I got off track and would forget, so to speak.  They would serve as reminders that I was no longer the old me, but rather the new creation in Christ.

There’s something that happens when we write things down that come straight from the Lord.  Not only do they encourage us and move us forward, but they serve as reminders when we lose our way.

Reminders that we are indeed new creations in Christ.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I have forgotten who I am in You. Thank You Lord for Your Word that reminds me daily. May I walk in the new, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
