New Beginnings

by Rien Vidad on December 31, 2024

SCRIPTURE:

“He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Revelation 21:5

OBSERVATION:

God is speaking directly to John of what is to come and what he can expect.  A new heaven and a new earth, no more mourning or crying or pain, with the old order of things having passed away.  Interestingly enough, he reminds him to write it down, perhaps knowing that he may forget.

APPLICATION:

Tomorrow marks the New Year.  Many have already geared up and listed their resolutions for the upcoming months.  On this day, I usually take time to reflect on the past year – some of the things I got right and some of the things I got wrong.  Learning from what has happened, but not allowing it to define who I am.  It allows this verse to come alive:

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:13-14

It’s also another reminder of not allowing things to define who I am in Christ:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

It’s an exciting time as I get to look forward to the New Year and New Beginnings that come with it.  It’s a time where I can sit with the Lord and the plans He is placing on my heart, and the areas He is calling me to focus on during the upcoming year.

I need to remember to take time today to pray, reflect and sit with the Lord.  As I do, I need to remember what He told John – Write down what He is saying, for His words are Trustworthy and True.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty.  Forgive me Lord when I have forgotten to take time to sit with You.  Thank You Lord for another year and the new beginnings that You are bringing.  May I take time to listen and be still in Your presence, and write down what You are speaking, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
