Never Forget

SCRIPTURE:

“But I have been the Lord your God ever since you came out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me. I cared for you in the wilderness, in the land of burning heat.  When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.
Hosea 13:4-6

OBSERVATION:

God had cared for and provided for Israel.  Sadly, their hearts had changed, but God’s did not.  While they had forgotten about the Lord once their problems seemed to disappear, He remained the same.

APPLICATION:

When we are in the throes of life, it’s easy to pray and cry out to God for help.  Unfortunately, when things are going well it’s also easy for us to forget, just as Israel did.

Many years ago, as I had come out of one of the most difficult times in my life where it seemed as if I were praying and talking to God constantly, I found myself getting to a place of complacency.  Life was not as difficult as it once was and my prayer life seemed to reflect that.

One day as I was driving home, I found myself in prayer and talking to The Lord.  I remember saying “Wow, Lord, I know it’s been a while.  I don’t why…”

To which I remember the Lord saying to me, “It’s because you forgot.  Once you got everything that you had prayed for, you forgot.  When your life went back to normal, you forgot about me.”

Ouch.

The Lord was right.  It’s not often in the pit where we will find ourselves praying less, but it will be in prosperity.  THAT will be one of the greatest tests of our walk with the Lord.  We change, but the Lord never does.  He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore (Hebrews 13:8).

Regardless of what season I am in, what cannot change is my relationship and prayer life with God.  I must continue to seek Him out – both in the pit and in prosperity.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty.  Forgive me Lord for times when I have forgotten You.  Thank You Lord that You never change.  May I always cry out to You, regardless of the situations going on around me, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
