Scripture
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)
Observation
Any time I'm wrestling against flesh and blood, anytime I'm in opposition against people, I'm fighting the wrong battle. If I'm fighting with my boss or another employee, if I'm fighting with my parents, I am fighting the wrong battle. We are not to get sidetracked fighting against mere flesh and blood. We're to battle the spiritual entities that cause tension in our marriages, problems with our children, struggles with our parents. These entities are organized into principalities. When I understand that there are principalities-demonic entities over given regions of the world. Certain civilizations and cultures both historically and presently seem to be more oppressive and darker than others because, evidently, the demonic forces overseeing them are particularly potent.
If we fail to see that there are powers that cause people to be doubled over or bowed down in bondage, we’re going to fight the wrong battle. We can take people through hundreds of hours of counseling—but if we don’t deal with the real issue of principalities and powers, they’ll never be truly set free.
Application
My action step takes me to the very next verse in being able to combat Satan’s attacks. So I don’t have to be scared but just keep my mind clear and sober. Ephesians 6:13 (b)...take unto you the whole armor of God, that I may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
The key is I need to stand firm. I must be strong because I’ve been given the perfect defense.
Rather than feeling sorry for himself, Paul must have looked carefully at the guard to whom he was chained to, because using his armor as a vivid analogy. The Armor of God and His Written Word is all I need to combat these entities that are organized into principalities.
Prayer
Lord God, even though I am often being attacked by flesh and blood, I need to keep a clear mind and sober attitude. Put on the armor of God and carry with me the Word of truth, which is the Bible, and cover myself with Your protection for me. Lord, I choose to use all that You have provided for me and not fight against my own people and family. I am better with You leading the charge than taking this on my own, Thank you Lord for protecting me and directing me in Jesus Name. Amen.
