"And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split…" (Matthew 27:50-51)
Jesus saves! Two words that we’ve read on bumper stickers, heard from pulpits, and seen posted on feeds countless times…two words that, maybe, we’ve grown a little too used to. Two words that have lost the depth of their meaning, lost their power, lost their life altering anointing. Jesus saves…and was mocked, beaten, and killed to pay our debt. Jesus saves…us from our sins and rebellion. Jesus saves…us from our hopelessness, desperation, and loneliness. Jesus saves…by suffering and taking our punishment. Jesus saves…by defeating the law of sin and death, by overcoming the enemy and darkness, by conquering the grave. Jesus saves…by giving up His Spirit, tearing the curtain that separated mankind from the presence of God, and restoring relationship, fellowship, and communion with the One True God.
May these two words never lose the depth of their meaning, or their power, or their life altering anointing in our lives. May these two words be our hope, our source, and our perspective today. Because Jesus saves, I get to live for Him and not my flesh today. Because Jesus saves, I have hope in my struggles and challenges. Because Jesus saves, I can walk in obedience, purity, and forgiveness today. May this remind us and reignite our faith and trust in the One True God that saves!
Jesus, thank You that You save! Please help me to never grow calloused to the power in those two words. May those words guide my decisions, my perspective, and my life that I might live to please You. In Your name, Amen!
