I Am The Branch

Scripture

“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” (John 15:2)

Observation

When I read this scripture, I think of when I’m preparing my messages for the weekend services - especially for this upcoming New Years' services.  I may start with something I feel is good.  Yet, practically every day I am cutting and pruning away bits and pieces of what I feel  God is showing me that will or will not connect with the people.  When I can allow God to work in me, He shows me what in my message becomes His message.

Application

God’s message is far greater than mine.  The lesson for me today and application is to always connect with God to discover what is He saying to me to deliver to the congregation.  Make it His message and not my own feel-good message.  I need to go into prayer with God and put myself in the people listening to this message mode and feel what God is showing me to prune and cut so that it becomes what God wants me to say.  His Words are immeasurable.

Prayer

Lord thank you for this lesson on the vine and the branches.  I always love the life lessons from this parable.  Thank you for helping me with this New Years' message.  In Jesus Name I Pray.  Amen.
