SCRIPTURE:
Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. At that time the son born according to the flesh persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now. But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.” Galatians 4:28-31
OBSERVATION:
Paul reaffirms the believers of that time that they are children of the promise, born according to the freedom and power of Jesus Christ; unlike the birth of Ishmael by Hagar that was born a slave, both in society and the edict to follow.
APPLICATION:
As the son born of flesh persecuted the son born of the Spirit in those times, it is interesting how the descendants of the son born of flesh are doing so today in the Middle East and increasing throughout the world. The repetition and continuance that we read in the Word has and is clearly coming to fruition. Thus, what are we to do as believers? Verse 31, which clearly states that we are children of the free woman; is the promise that we need to hold on to as we see what is happening in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas. We already see how the challenges, trials and inherent tribulations are taking place in communities, college campuses, and elsewhere. As the promise freed us from the law, so to should the promise free us from taking our eyes off of Jesus, getting caught up in the conflict, and even getting drawn into the conflict. May we draw close to Jesus, and pray for God’s will and way in the Middle East; or that Jesus would come as He promises.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, as history prophetically is taking place in our time and before our eyes, may my faith, obedience and actions each day be based on the promise of Jesus Christ and the freedom I enjoy through Him born of the free woman. Thus, may I have compassion for the harmed, and pray for your will and way that your resolution would take place in these times and in this conflict and others around the world. Lord, I look forward to our return. Until then, may I walk in obedience and not get distracted by the world and what is transpiring in the world.
