SCRIPTURE:
“As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Luke 21:1-4
OBSERVATION:
Jesus spoke clearly on the difference between the giving of the two – the rich and the poor. Interestingly, the widow gave only two small copper coins, yet Jesus says she gave more than ALL the others. He didn’t say she gave more than one or some, He says that she gave more than ALL. They gave out of their wealth and she out of her poverty. It wasn’t the amount that was given, but rather the heart in which it was given.
APPLICATION:
When I first began my walk with the Lord, I remember so distinctly a time when I had asked Him what He wanted me to do. In essence, I was asking the Lord what He wanted from me and what He was calling me to do.
I had come to the point where I had been doing A LOT. I had been serving, I was in a small group, I was attending several services a week, I was in several classes at the church. From an outsiders’ perspective, it would appear that my walk was rich. Yet, I remember so clearly what the Lord spoke to me:
“I don’t want anything from you. I just want your heart.”
It caused me to take some time in deep reflection to see why I was doing what I was doing. I took a step back to see the heart in which I was serving and doing.
I’ve learned this about the Lord: He is less concerned with what I can do and more concerned with who I am becoming. What He wants from me is my heart.
PRAYER:
Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I have gotten so caught up in the doing that I’ve missed what You were trying to purpose in and through me. Thank You Lord that You continue to speak to my heart. May I remember that it’s more about HEART work, rather than HARD work, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
