He Sat Down

SCRIPTURE:

Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God… For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Hebrews 10:11–14

OBSERVATION:

The priests in the Old Covenant stood daily because their work was never finished. Their sacrifices had to be repeated and still could not fully remove sin. In contrast, Jesus offered one sacrificeonce for all, and then sat down a powerful sign that the work was complete.

Because of His finished work, those who belong to Him are already made perfect in status before God, even while we are still being formed and made holy in daily life.

APPLICATION:

I am reminded that my standing before God does not improve by doing more religious activities or carrying a title. Being a Christian or a pastor is not about standing endlessly before God trying to prove myself. Jesus already sat down. The work is done! Striving and trying to earn approval is done. Doesn’t not mean we take advantage of this gift but we lean into the offer it gives us; our salvation is secured! R.C. Sproul says,

“When Scripture tells us Christ is seated, it is proclaiming His royal authority and finished atonement.”

I have placed my whole life in His hands because He has claimed me. I am His, and I belong to God the Father. My obedience flows from belonging, not from striving. I serve, preach, and lead not to earn acceptance, but because I am already accepted.

PRAYER:

Jesus, thank You that the work is finished. Help me to rest in what You have already done and not measure my worth by how much I do. Teach me to live, serve, and love from a place of belonging. My life is in Your hands I am Yours, and I belong to the Father. Amen.
