SCRIPTURE:
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.”
Acts 2:42-43
OBSERVATION:
Peter’s admonishing and teaching the people about the Holy Spirit descending, about the last days and Jesus the Savior; the people were moved and devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread with one another and prayer. Subsequently, they witnessed many wonders and signs performed by the apostles, which as we know was God moving and working through them. I surmise that it was the Holy Spirit moving because of their dedication to Christ, their learning the word and living it out through the fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer together. Where God’s people are wholly dedicated to Him, God will move. God’s plan that was given then, is still good now.
APPLICATION:
These scriptures move me in knowing how faithful the Lord has been to our church, my family, and I. The question is, have I been faithful to Him in following His will in obedience to His plan, which is being continuously immersed in His Word, my prayer time with Him, serving Him and communing with others to affirm and build one another up? How often does life’s responsibilities and tasks take up and take over my time? I am continuously reminded of my anal, tasky, get “er” done propensity that perhaps lacks the state-of-mind and intentionality in the relational and fellowship time, or taking the proper time to seek and dwell with the Lord in prayer. May I do better! I realize that I also must be intentional in my time with the Lord in prayer and in His Word. I need to be prepared according to His Word. I am thankful for what God is doing at New Hope this year in Discipleship and our intentionality to encourage community with one another.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank you for spurring me to look at my life in terms of your plan for me and how I daily prepare, and intentionally make my life an invitation for you to move in my life and our church. I am blessed to be a part of the ohana of God we call New Hope O’ahu and the body of Christ. May I continue in my devotion and love to you and finding communion with my brothers and sisters in Christ.
