From Reading to Living

SCRIPTURE:

9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’” 10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour.

Revelation 10:9–10

OBSERVATION:

God’s Word is sweet because it gives us truth, hope, direction, and the promises of God. But sometimes that same truth becomes difficult when we realize what it requires from us.
It is one thing to enjoy a Bible verse; it is another thing to allow that verse to correct us, change our habits, challenge our priorities, or move us to obedience. John didn’t just look at the scroll; he consumed it. God’s Word was meant to become part of him.

APPLICATION:

I don’t want to read Scripture only for encouragement. I want to let God’s Word transform me, even when what He shows me is uncomfortable. When Scripture reveals something I need to forgive, surrender, stop, start, or change, will I still obey?
I look at people like Bryce Crawford who boldly profess Jesus. Watching him on a podcast being questioned about his faith. He did it with much grace, love, and truth. He didn’t answer with opinions but by the truth of God. He learned to devour Gods word, because of that he was able to rightfully divide the truth.
I want to continue to read the Word to living the Word. The truth may not always be easy to digest, but God can use it to shape my life and make me more like Christ.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for Your Word. Help me not only to enjoy the promises that comfort me, but also to receive the truth that corrects and challenges me. Give me a teachable heart and the courage to obey You even when obedience is difficult. Let Your Word become part of the way I think, speak, and live. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s reminder:
Don’t just consume God’s Word, let God’s Word change you.
