Food Eternal

Scripture

“When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing. Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.” He replied, “You give them something to eat.” (Luke 9:10-13)

Observation

The food that Jesus had for the crowds was the food of salvation and eternal life, as He spoke to them of the Kingdom of God.  And given the situation at hand with the scarcity of food, Jesus used the opportunity to perform a miracle of feeding the multitude as an analogy of God’s will to give the people food of eternal life.

Application

So too is God’s will and call upon us today that we share the eternal food of the good news of Jesus Christ through salvation.  There are so many people in our lives that have been starved of the food of Christ.  It is we who have the privilege to feed the multitude as we share about Christ in our lives.  His words in Luke 9:13 “You give them something to eat.”  It is His command that we are called to share this food of eternal life.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank you that I know Jesus as Lord and Savior as someone chose to share the good news of salvation with me. I know that I am called by your plan and will to pay forward the gift of salvation I received to also share the good news of your food of life eternal.
