SCRIPTURE:
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?””
Mark 4:39-40
OBSERVATION:
Have you ever found yourself feeling helpless, hopeless, and overwhelmed with fear? Today we find the disciples in this very situation as they helplessly floated in a tiny boat being battered by wind and waves, and there was nothing they could do about it. There was no escape, there was no fix they could manufacture, and on their own they were doomed. They ran to Jesus with a very disturbing question, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” In essence they were saying, “Jesus, what are you doing!? why aren’t you helping us…why aren’t you bailing water, battening down the hatches, and scrambling to do whatever we can to keep this boat afloat?” They were doing the “fishermen’s fix” rather than resting in faith. It’s like they totally forgot about His miracle working power, like they totally forgot about His plan to go to the other side, and as soon as trouble came, they totally forgot about their faith.”
APPLICATION:
How often do I totally forget…totally forget about my Savior’s miracle working power, totally forget about His plan, and when facing hardship, how often do I totally forget about my faith. Today I’m reminded that I must:
1. Trust His Presence: He is with me, He is for me, and He knows!
2. Trust His Power: He is bigger than every storm and trial and has the power to do anything!
3. Trust His Promise: He told the disciples they were going to the other side, and His words always come to pass. So, too, He promises to work every situation out for good.
4. Rest in His Peace: Regardless of the situation, I can rest in His peace!
PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You that when things seem helpless and hopeless I can trust You! Thank You that I can trust Your presence, Your power, and Your promise. Thank You for Your peace in every circumstance. Today, I choose faith and hope in You. In Your name, Amen!
