Find A Micaiah

by Rien Vidad on June 18, 2024

SCRIPTURE:

“The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, “Look, the other prophets without exception are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably.”  But Micaiah said, “As surely as the Lord lives, I can tell him only what my God says.”
2 Chronicles 18:12-13

OBSERVATION:

Ahab had summoned 400 prophets, ones who were seemingly “yes” men.  Jehoshaphat asked if there was anyone else and Ahab reluctantly mentioned Micaiah, because as Ahab put it – “he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad.”  The messenger presses Micaiah to agree with the rest, but he refuses.

APPLICATION:

We all know at least one person who will tell us the things that we really don’t want to hear, but that we need to hear.  If you don’t, it would be wise to find one.

When I was much younger, I would gravitate towards friends that would tell me the things that I wanted to hear, and would agree with the things that I wanted to do.  Unfortunately for me, their advice would often get me into trouble because they never had my best in mind.

As I grew older, I started gravitating towards the Micaiahs in my life.  Not because I particularly enjoyed hearing harsh truths, but because their advice would often lead me down the right path – straight back to Jesus.

Ahab found 400 “yes” men who he decided to listen to and lost his life, and one that would tell him the truth no matter what.  Finding the former is easy, but when you find someone who will speak truth to you, keep them close.  They just might save your life, literally and figuratively.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty.  Forgive me Lord when I have listened to the wrong people and taken their advice.  Thank You Lord for the Micaiahs you have placed in my life, may I always keep them close, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
