Exampling Jesus & His Love

by John Tilton on August 11, 2025

SCRIPTURE:

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”
John 13:14-17

OBSERVATION:

I love this actual act by Jesus to wash His disciples’ feet as a prompting for His disciples to lead in the same way going forth.  Serving others and loving on others in relational ways was so evident through Jesus.  Likewise, it really is so simple and true that we are called to take the example of Jesus and pass it and practice it forward.

APPLICATION:

These scriptures give me a clear vision and plan that ‘washing someone’s feet” rather than being a literal act of ministering, can be the time, attention, and heart we can give to others and share with others.  Furthermore, if there is something we can do for others in need or just bless them with something good.

This thought is resonating with me that giving others time and attention is a great way of relationally exampling Jesus and heeding the call that He has called us to do as disciples.  It is in those times that the Lord may open the door of their heart to hear about Christ and receive Christ, all because we took the time to give them our attention, time, ear, and heart.  Even with strangers – a smile in passing, a nod of the head, and polite and courteous gestures.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, thank you for the lesson and prompting of something that is so basic and prime to serving you … served others as you served us.
