Even More Will Be Given

by Tim Savage on January 19, 2021

Today's Reading:
Genesis 47,48; Psalms 10; Luke 19

Scripture

‘Yes,’ the king replied, ‘and to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.'" (Luke 19:26)

Observation

This verse comes from the parable of the servants in Luke. A nobleman was leaving on a journey to be crowned king and three of his servants were given an amount of money to oversee to see what would they would do with it before his return. When he got back from his trip, each was rewarded or punished because of the fruit of their oversight and investment. Jesus has given each of us resources – talent, time, money, influence, power – and before His return, we are to use those resources to lead others to Him. When Jesus returns, we will be held responsible for the gifts that we were given. We will be asked if we stewarded and invested them for the kingdom, if we helped to bring others home, or did we hide them away and bury them and return nothing.

Application

I want to be one who is given even more because I used my resources well. I want to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” from my Master. Signs of the day point to Jesus returning soon. None of us know how soon, but we must be ready by fulfilling our assignments and living with intention. We must live each day as if Jesus might return. God says that we will not know the day of His return, it’s meant to be that way because we are naturally lazy and procrastinators and we would wait until the last possible minute to get ourselves right with him. Since we won’t know the day we must prepare now and be ready so that we will be left with regret. It could be today or it might not happen in my kids’ lifetime, but one thing we know for sure, we are closer now than we have ever been before.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

I want to fulfill Your will for me. I want to make the most of the gifts that I have been given and the opportunities that You have presented to me. I love you Lord and want to represent You well. In Jesus name, Amen
