DINNER DATE WITH GOD

by Scott Hogle on December 19, 2022

Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself. Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and they saw God, and they ate and drank. Exodus 24:9-11

If God were to set a dinner date with you, how would you prepare? If you are preparing for a date with your significant other, you might pick out your best clothes, do your hair just right, and double check your appearance before leaving the house. But if you are planning to meet with God, you would prepare differently as He sees through the appearance and looks at the heart. If I am coming to God for a one on one, I will want to take inventory of my thought life and deeds to determine what I need to ask forgiveness for because everything is naked to his eye. I will want to consider the last thing God told me to do in my conscience to make sure that I performed it. How would you prepare for a one-on-one conversation with God? Who would you bring up to Him?

In Old Testament times God would speak through a prophet to the people. In New Testament times, God does not need to come to us because he already lives in us through Christ. You have the ability to meet with God and share a meal with him every day. You can bring him to dinner by praying at the beginning of the meal and fall asleep in his arms by talking to Him just before you drift off to sleep. God is with you and in you in a way that he was not even with Moses. This means you can walk through your day with full confidence knowing that the Lord is not just walking with you as He did Moses, but He is in you. You are never more than one conversation away from God. He’s waiting for you to enter His presence now.

REFLECT TO CONNECT:

  • What are the issues you would like to bring to God today?
  • When you pray, do you kneel down or simply bow your heart and let your request be made known?
  • God knows your needs before you ask him, what might God be seeking you for today?

Principle. God is always prepared with your needs on his mind when he meets with you, how might you prepare to speak to him about His needs today?
