Scripture
Luke 23:50–54
“Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.”
Observation
Joseph of Arimathea was a respected member of the Jewish council, yet he was not afraid to stand apart from the group when he believed their decision was wrong. While many of his peers condemned Jesus, Joseph did not agree with their actions.
When Jesus died, Joseph showed great courage and love by going to Pilate to ask for His body. This act was not small, it took bravery to publicly associate himself with someone who had just been executed as a criminal. After receiving permission, Joseph wrapped Jesus body in linen and placed it in a tomb that had never been used.
Joseph’s faith was quiet yet strong. While others abandoned Jesus in fear, Joseph chose to honor Him through service and devotion. His obedience in this dark moment showed that true faith acts even when it costs something.
Application
Joseph’s example teaches me to live with integrity and courage. Like him, I want to do what is right even when it goes against the opinions or expectations of others. There will be times when following Jesus may not be popular or comfortable, but faith calls me to be bold in those moments.
Waiting for the kingdom of God does not mean being passive; it means living in readiness and showing my faith through loving and faithful actions. Joseph teaches me that even quiet acts of devotion like caring for someone in need or standing up for truth no matter. He use his position to serve God. His story reminds me to ask myself; Am I willing to be known as a follower of Jesus, even when it could cost me something?
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for the example of Joseph of Arimathea. Help me to have the same courage to do what is right, even when it is difficult or unpopular. Teach me to live out my faith through quiet acts of service and devotion that honor You. When I face moments of fear or uncertainty, remind me that obedience and integrity matter more than approval. May my life reflect the same hope Joseph had as he waited for Your kingdom. I pray that my faith would be both sincere and bold. In Jesus’ name, amen.
