SCRIPTURE:
“Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways.’”
Haggai 1:5
OBSERVATION:
In Haggai 1, God speaks to His people because they had become consumed with their own lives while neglecting the house of God. They were busy building personal comfort while spiritual priorities were left in ruins.
So God tells them:
“Consider your ways.”
Pause.
Reflect.
Look honestly at the direction of your life.
Then in Luke 10, Jesus sends out the seventy-two disciples to minister, heal, and bring peace wherever they go. Their focus was not on themselves, but on participating in God’s work and God’s kingdom.
Both passages challenge misplaced priorities.
APPLICATION:
Life becomes busy so easily. Responsibilities, schedules, work, finances, and daily pressures can slowly consume all of our attention.
And without realizing it, spiritual things can drift lower and lower on the priority list.
Haggai reminds me that God sometimes lovingly calls us to stop and evaluate what we are truly building with our lives.
Am I building only my own comfort?
Or am I investing in things that matter eternally?
Luke 10 reminds me that following Jesus is not just about believing privately — it’s about participating in His mission, bringing His love, peace, and truth to others.
A meaningful life is not built merely on personal success, but on eternal purpose.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to carefully consider the direction of my life and priorities. Show me where distraction or busyness may be pulling my heart away from You. Teach me to seek first Your kingdom and invest my time, energy, and life into things that matter eternally. Let my life reflect Your purposes and not merely my own comfort. In Jesus’ name, amen.
