Clean His House

by Donovan Sabog on March 21, 2024

SCRIPTURE:

18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20

OBSERVATION:

We’ve all been in the situation where we’ve invited a friend over to our house. Before that friend comes over, what do you typically do to your house? You clean it! You want the guest of honor to experience your house in its best condition. You sweep and swiffer the floors, you clean and tidy the living room, and you pick up and throw away the trash to make sure your home is spic and span for the guest of honor.

When was the last time you cleaned His home? And I’m not talking about the Church building (although we could always use a few more Levites at the ministry center!). No––I’m talking about your heart. In 1 Corinthians 6, the apostle Paul reminds us that our “bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.” Have you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? If you have, YOUR HEART IS HIS HOME! You––yes, you––house the Spirit of the Living God within your body. He has made you His home, and He’s not just a visiting guest––He is a full-time, permanent resident!

Is His home clean or have you been filling His home with trash? As Paul tells us, those who commit sexual immorality are sinning against their own bodies––against the home of the Lord. What have you filled His home with? Whether it is lust, greed, pride, unforgiveness against others or yourself, or even untrue, ungodly thoughts, you have a duty to honor God by keeping His home clean. Honor God with your body, your mind, and your heart, for He has chosen to make you His home.

APPLICATION:

How would you rate the cleanliness of His home? Have you kept it spic and span, or is there some cleaning that needs to be done? If you’re human (which I sure hope you are if you’re reading this post), then I surmise that the latter might be true. Lucky for you, God is not just a permanent resident––He’s a full-service housekeeper, cleaning service, handyman, and garbage man. He will always provide you with His services, but you need to call upon Him to do His cleaning work.

1 John 1:9 says “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” There is no sin you have committed that God will not forgive. He desires to restore you, clean your wounds, purify your heart, and love you back to life. If you find your heart––His home––in need of a little bit of cleaning today, take heart. Call upon His name, confess your sins, receive His forgiveness, and allow Him to clean His home completely spic and span, worthy of being visited by the Ultimate Guest of Honor.

PRAYER:

Lord,
Thank You for making my heart Your home. I repent, I confess, and I ask for your forgiveness. Clean my heart and restore my soul. Take away my trash and empower me to honor Your temple. I welcome you, Holy Spirit, to live in me. May I live in such a way that honors Your home.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen
