SCRIPTURE:
“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
Acts 4:13
OBSERVATION:
The captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees had seized Peter and John and put them in jail. The next day they were brought before rulers, elders and teachers for questioning, no doubt to strike fear in them. Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit speaks. Their courage and boldness revealed, it becomes obvious they had learned at the feet of Jesus.
APPLICATION:
Upon reading this, a few quotes instantly come to mind. Ones like these:
“Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.”
“We become like those we hang around with.”
The Bible warns us of the company that we keep:
“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” – Proverbs 13:20
“Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33
For a long period of my life, I was often angry, I would swear quite a bit and my attitude was negative. After I was saved, I began changing what I read, listened to and watched. My playlist consisted less of worldly music and more of worship music. I also began spending more time with other brothers in Christ, and less with my friends in the world who didn’t have God’s best in mind for my life.
Good or bad, Positive or negative, we become like that which we surround ourselves with. Such a simple, but powerful lesson.
If I want God’ best in my life, I’ll need to spend more time with Him, daily.
PRAYER:
Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord when I have chosen poorly. Thank You Lord that You give us the ability today to spend time with You. May I choose wisely and choose to spend time with You regularly, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
