SCRIPTURE:
For the sake of Your name, O Lord, revive me. In your righteousness, bring my soul out of trouble.
Psalm 143:11
OBSERVATION:
One of the worst things one can say is “never change.” We are called to change more into the image of God. However, there is one who has already reached perfection, and that is Christ Himself. God doesn’t need our love to love us. This is good news, because God loved us while we were yet sinners. He is merciful for His name's sake. He brings souls out of trouble because of His own righteousness. He is the unchanging, endless God. He is the Logos, the Author, and the Word that became flesh, that dwells among us. He doesn’t help us because we are righteous. He is merciful to us because of His righteousness.
APPLICATION:
I’m empowered to trust God even more because He doesn't need me to be good to me. It’s unto Himself. His character is unchanging. Therefore, I will worship the God who loves me despite me. I will remind myself of the perfection of God. He doesn’t need to change and become greater or lesser. He is perfection. I can take great hope in the reality that God won’t change, because I change. In fact, before I asked for forgiveness, God chose to die for me because of His own character. I will trust in the perfect, unchanging goodness of God. I will trust the God who predicates His action upon His own righteous name.
PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, that you are good despite my unrighteousness. What you say, You will do, Your will be done. Thank you for displaying Your goodness and power to me. Lord, would You help me to know and obey Your ways. Amen.
