SCRIPTURE:
“He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain – first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.”
Mark 4:26-28
OBSERVATION:
The Word of God works much like this. As it gets scattered on the soil of our hearts, God does the watering and nurturing, and it begins to grow as we partner with the Lord. As it grows to full maturity, we see it start to bear fruit in our lives.
APPLICATION:
When I first got saved I would occasionally do my devotions. It wasn’t until I made a daily commitment to getting into the Word did I begin to see real fruit begin to grow in my life.
Though I did not fully understand how the Lord was growing me, as I partnered with the Him in doing my best to steward the seed that He was scattering through my daily devotions, I began to see the fruit.
One day someone at work had asked me to help move some things around the office. Those “some things” ended up being a large storage closet full of old furniture that had to be removed. My smile soon turned to frustration and I was just about to let this person have it when the Lord reminded me of this verse:
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing,” – Philippians 2:14
I shut my mouth and kept helping. As the Lord continued speaking to my heart, I realized how selfish I was being. I was more than capable of helping, and if I had been in a similar position I’m sure I would have appreciated the help.
The Bible reminds me that I cannot merely read and listen to it, I must do what it says.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” – James 1:22
PRAYER:
Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord when I have sat idly by and did not act on what You were asking me to do. Thank You Lord that You continue to work in us. May I not just hear what You say, but do it as well, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
