SCRIPTURE:
“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.”
Luke 11:33-36
OBSERVATION:
Light is meant to shine and illuminate space and things to be seen. Thus, what we see and let in through the filter of our eyes will determine the condition of our heart and mind. If we let good in our heart, good will come forth. If we let bad, evil, and sin in, these things will come forth from us. We are encouraged to look for the good, the spiritual, and the edifying that in turn will fill us with the light of righteousness and love. Subsequently, what people will see of us and in us will be the light or righteousness which become our witness and testimony. Good in, good out. Bad in, bad out.
APPLICATION:
What do I allow to catch my eye, attention, and time? What do I allow to take space and residence in my heart and mind? If I intently let the lens of the Lord’s Word, will, and way filter what I see and let in; the nature of my heart and mind will guide my thoughts, what I say, and what I do to come forth. I will then be a light when I walk into a room or encounter people, rather than a dark shadow that people want to avoid. We often don’t realize our countenance of our appearance that stems from within. I’ve had moments where what I’m thinking reflects on my face, where Lanu will ask me, “what’s wrong?” I’ll answer, “nothing.” Where she will counter with “well tell your face that.”
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, may I spend my time and attention in things that are good, blessed, and aligned with your will and ways that what I see and receive will bring forth the light of your purpose and plan for my life. May your light shine through me and be transferred to others.
