Almighty Over Analytics

SCRIPTURE:

"Therefore, because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die."

2 Kings 1:16

OBSERVATION:

King Ahaziah had all the information available to him, but he was looking in all the wrong places. While was injured and uncertain about his future, he didn't seek the Lord. Instead, he sent messengers to consult Baal-Zebub. His decision was driven by an earthly solution rather than by faith in the Almighty God. Ahaziah trusted analytics over the Almighty.

I see this same tendency today. Putting value in what is seen rather than what his unseen. We live in a world obsessed with measurements, projections, statistics, and probabilities. Analytics have value, but they become dangerous when they replace dependence on God. It reminds me of how many people evaluated NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson throughout his career. Scouts saw his height. They measured his speed. They analyzed his physical limitations. What they failed to account for was his heart, leadership, toughness, and relentless will to win; and yesterday he led his team down the “canyon of champions”.

APPLICATION:

Ahaziah looked at his circumstances and sought answers from a false source because the visible evidence seemed overwhelming. Faith, however, sees beyond the numbers. Faith remembers that God specializes in doing what statistics say cannot be done. When I trust only what I can calculate, I miss what God can accomplish. To build this faith I must:

  1. Seek God before seeking answers. Before consulting opinions, reports, forecasts, or experts, bring the matter before the Lord in prayer and Scripture.
  2. Don't let analytics become my authority. Facts are helpful, but God's Word is final. I need to allow His promises to shape my perspective more than your projections.
  3. Look for God's possibilities, not just human probabilities. Train myself to ask, "What can God do?" instead of only asking, "What is likely to happen?"

PRAYER:

Jesus, forgive me for the times I trust calculations more than Your character. Like Ahaziah, I can be tempted to search for answers everywhere except at Your feet. Teach me to seek You first in every situation. May I trust the Almighty more than the analytics and walk confidently according to Your Word. Amen
