All the Difference

SCRIPTURE:

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

Psalm 13:5-6

OBSERVATION:

King David gives an unadulterated depiction of what He was feeling. He felt forgotten. He felt discouraged and alone. He was tired of wrestling with the thoughts in his head. Was there going to be any reprieve from the battle?

David was having a “Dark night of the soul” moment. Everything that could go wrong was going wrong. The world seemed to close in around him, but God met him there. It’s almost like David walked into the dark, cold room of his soul and lit a fire that filled the room with light, warmth, and hope.

The love of God made all the difference in the world. His heart rejoiced, because his salvation was in the unchangeable character of God. He even sang, because he remembered that God was good to him. One might be in evil times, but in evil times, God is still able. Jesus Christ makes all the difference.

APPLICATION:

God makes all the difference in the world. He shines the light of his character in the darkest of places. When we feel lost, discouraged, and forgotten, we can remember that He has been good to us. The goal isn’t to ignore the darkness, but to turn on a light in the midst of the darkness. That light is Christ Jesus.

He went to the cross to pay the light bill that we could not afford. This light shines brightest in the darkest of places. We never have to walk in darkness again, because God’s light of love, peace, and hope is free. This reality is only because he bankrupted heaven for me. I don’t need to be afraid of the darkness, because I trust the unfailing love of God.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord,

Thank you for being the light of the world. You are the only way, the truth, and the life. Thank you for the assurance that good is coming. Amen.
