SCRIPTURE:
These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
Isaiah 66:2
OBSERVATION:
I deeply desire the favor of the Lord, for my sake, for my family’s sake, and for the sake of the callings He has placed on my life. Favor does not mean earthly prosperity or success. Instead, it means that the God of heaven is with me, and if He is for me, then truly, who or what can stand against me? His favor is His nearness, His blessing, and His approval over the path I walk with Him.
The prophet write that being looked upon with God’s favor requires three essential postures of the heart: humility, a contrite spirit, and trembling at His Word.
APPLICATION:
Humility is not weakness, nor is it thinking too little of myself. It is instead standing in awe and reverence before the sovereign King, Creator, and Lord of all. It means living in worshipful recognition of who He is and who I am in Him. True humility places others above myself because it flows from love, love for God and love for His people. It is not about denying my worth, but about acknowledging that my worth comes entirely from being a child of the King and a citizen of His kingdom.
A contrite spirit speaks to repentance. It is the posture of a heart that acknowledges sin and shortcomings but turns quickly back to God. I know that on my own I will stumble and fall short. Yet the beauty of God’s mercy is that His kindness draws me into repentance. He does not find joy in punishing but in restoring. With a sincere and repentant heart, I can come before Him, and He is quick to forgive and swift to embrace me in His steadfast love.
To tremble at His Word is to honor the Scriptures with reverence and obedience. It is not a casual glance at truth but a deep devotion to it. This requires a consistent and sincere dedication to reading, observing, and applying God’s Word in my life. As I spend time with Him in Scripture and prayer, He shapes my thoughts, forms my character, and aligns my actions with His will.
PRAYER:
Lord, may I walk in humility, repentance, and devotion, that I may experience Your favor all the days of my life.
