Hallmarks of a Prophetic Leader

by Wayne Cordeiro on March 29, 2021

Today's Reading:
Judges 6,7; Psalms 52; 1 Corinthians 14

Scripture

“Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy … one who prophecies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.” (1 Corinthians 14:1-3)

Observation

There is a “gift” of prophecy and there is the “call” to prophesy! Prophetic leadership falls under this category. In the Old Testament, there were actually schools for budding prophets. Elisha came from one of these. The Old Testament had priests and it had prophets. A “priest” is one who speaks to God on behalf of men, but a prophet speaks to men on behalf of God. A prophetic voice is a messenger’s cry reiterating what God is saying, leading physically where God is leading spiritually, and fulfilling what Jesus teaches us to pray … Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In order for the Kingdom of God to take place among us, we will require prophetic leadership.

Application

In the last days, the church will require prophetic leaders. These are ones who will:

  • Hear God clearly
  • Exhibit His heart in carrying out His instructions
  • Not be embarrassed to be human (which will require humility and courage to ask forgiveness without losing self-esteem)
  • Demonstrate the ability to steward the fruitfulness

Prayer

Father, thank You for this lesson. I pray that You would raise up prophetic leaders in our churches today … people who will speak on Your behalf and take Kingdom risks! These will be men and women of courage and they will lead with a gracious but stalwart faith. I ask to be one among many of those kinds of leaders, and I pray that You will raise many up in our church. In Jesus’ name! Amen
