Welcome to “Pastor Wayne Classics: Citizens of Heaven,” a small group study that originated from a previous sermon of mine. This small group study is designed to help you become more like the person Jesus created you to be. We are glad that you have joined us and we are excited because we know that it is by His divine invitation that you are here.

Spiritual growth happens in small groups because life change happens as we build relationships with other Christian brothers and sisters. In the setting of our community, we can obey Jesus’ command to love one another. In this study, you will not only learn about and discuss biblical principles for life, but you will also be challenged to think and talk about how to apply what you have learned to your everyday life. The goal is not that you accumulate more head knowledge, but that your spiritual life would be transformed and your character will reflect that of Jesus Christ.

The ideas in this small group study are more than just the accumulation of my 40-plus years in ministry. I have included lessons I have learned from making hundreds of mistakes, as well as gems gleaned from observing many wonderful churches and leaders in action.

We must learn from each other, and when we do, we will be miles closer to becoming all that God desires for us. Join us as we embark on this adventure together. I pray that you will come away motivated and inspired in your walk with the Lord.

Serving Him Together,

Pastor Wayne Cordeiro

Session 1

Key Scriptures

“O Lord, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; in whose eyes a reprobate is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; he swears to his own hurt and does not change; he does not put out his money at interest, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.” - Psalm 15:1-5

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” - 2 Timothy 3 1-5, NIV

“Dear brothers and sisters, you are foreigners and aliens here. So I warn you to keep away from evil desires because they fight against your very souls. Be careful how you live among your unbelieving neighbors. Even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behaviour, and they will believe and give honor to God when He comes to judge the world.” - 1 Peter 2:11-12, NLT

Session 2

Key Scripture

“So you must live in reverent fear of Him during your time as foreigners here on earth. For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver. He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless lamb of God.” - 1 Peter 1:17-19, NLT

Session 3

Key scripture

“So you must live in reverent fear of Him during your time as foreigners here on earth. For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver. He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless lamb of God.” - 1 Peter 1:17-19, NLT

Session 4

key scriptures

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35, NASB

Session 5

key scriptures

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” - Galatians 2:20, NIV
