Torn into His Presence

Scripture

"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.  And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.  And the earth shook and the rocks were split." (Matthew 27:50-52)

Observation

These scriptures are so providential to me.  The fact that Jesus’ last cry as He gave up His spirit, resulted in the curtain of the temple being torn from top to bottom to symbolize direct access to the Lord, is so amazing.  We know that access to God prior was only through the priests with sacrifices made.  However, this moment recognized that Jesus sacrifice and death provided that all could come directly onto the Lord Jesus.  The illustrations and metaphors in the scriptures truly affirm God’s word in Matthew 11:15, that he who has ears, listen; that only those who believe in Jesus will and are able to see and receive the treasures of God often spoken through parables and stories.

Application

I treasure that I can speak directly to the Lord directly through my prayers, and that the Father has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within me, to lead, guide, help, comfort, and teach me; until Jesus returns.  My relationship is a personal relationship as exemplified through these scriptures. It’s not a proxy or substitute relationship, but a direct.  Thus, the tearing of the curtain in the temple ushers me directly into His presence.  This is why time in His word and prayer is so important.  It brings us into the presence of the God most high, the one and only God, the God Supreme.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me that I am blessed to have a personal and direct relationship with you.  May my prayers and time in your Word always bring me into your presence.
