Don't Be Scared

by John Tilton on January 17, 2022

Scripture

“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it. I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left. In those days, simply put, everyone was caught up in the daily life of business and celebration.  Sin was rampant.  More importantly, no one was in relationship and reverence with the Lord.  Thus, they all were destroyed.” (Luke 17:28-35)

Observation

There is so much metaphor and messaging in these scriptures for me.  These scriptures bring to mind 2 Timothy 4:2, where the word says “Be ready in and out of season,” or in other words, be prepared and on guard always.  Everyone in the days of Lot were going about their business as usual.  More so, they were living in sin and were not upright and obedient to the Lord’s will.  Then in a blink of an eye, fire and sulfur rained down and destroyed them all.

Application

These scriptures are so applicable to these last days that we find ourselves in.  The signs of the times and birth pains are so evident, even though we don’t know the day and the hour of the Rapture and Jesus’ return.  It is so important that we draw close to Jesus in these times in obedience to His Word, His will, and His purpose.  There is such a propensity to focus on life and the things around us, going about our business as usual, and for many, living in sin.  Should we be scared?  No. But rather, we should be concerned to prompt us to be prepared.  Am I living in obedience to the Lord, drawing close to Him through His Word, and serving in His purpose?  When the rapture takes place, will I be ready or distracted?

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for the reminder that your return and the rapture are near.  May I not get caught up in life and all the things that are part of life.  But rather, may I put you first and plan accordingly to still do what I’m called to do in my daily life; but not at the expense or replacement of putting you first.
