1 Over 1000

Scripture

"For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness." (Psalm 84:10)

Observation

The Psalmist writes of the glory that awaits us in heaven.  Thirsting for it, he boldly states he would rather be there than anywhere else…even if it means simply standing at the doorway.

Application

I don’t have a lot, but I know I’m exactly where God has called me to be.  The shiny lights and mass appeal sometimes creep into conversations, but the desire for what some say is “more” is quickly dismissed when the Home that awaits is brought back to the forefront.  When the most eternal decision is met by the Eternal Father.

God has promised a destination that is bigger and better than anything my tiny brain can imagine.  The future and hope of those who believe in Him far exceed anything this earth can offer.  How do I know? Cause the Bible tells me so and “I AM WHAT IT SAYS I AM…I HAVE WHAT IT SAYS I HAVE...” so I cling to promises like John 14 “that there are many mansions that are being prepared for the faithful and committed to Jesus Christ.”  And while the mansion are wonderful to dream about, the reality of an eternity with my Savior and King is what really seals the deal.

So, 3 things need to reign in my life to ensure my eyes stay firmly focused on Jesus, His promises, His word, His truth.

  1. Patience: God has not failed me yet.  And although at times the outcomes are not exactly what I dreamed and hoped for, they are precisely what was needed, plus a little more.  I will patiently, and actively wait on the Lord (Isaiah 40:31) trusting His plans and His timing.
  2. Prepare: like the Baptist, I need to prepare the way of the Lord. Like Pastor John says, “don’t be scared, be prepared.”  For me that means the good news needs to be shared fearlessly and purposefully in order for all to be saved to an eternity with Jesus.
  3. Perseverance: Galatians reminds me to “not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”  To choose the doorway to Glory rather than the quick and immediate gratification of the world takes discipline and determination.  The only way for me to do so is to persevere and to remember and bear the Truth.

Prayer

Help me Jesus!!!  I choose 1 over 1000 each and every time.  Thank you for a glimpse of the glory You have waiting for those whose hearts are set on You.
