The Idol of Me

Rod Shimabukuro

"He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Savior." (Psalm 24:4-5)
David's song includes acknowledging God's greatness, power and ownership of the the world and everything in it, that He created. The lyrics of this song sings of the person of God's holy presence - who can approach Him and live near to Him, given who He is...The Only Holy, Mighty God!

Then the hope and challenge of David towards me, my heart and life....the challenge to live a pure, godly life!
I realize that the idolatry of yester-years is not the same as I deal with today. Idolatry takes the shape of many things, ideals - even ideas. Whether a sport, a pursuit or an inner self-promotion - I have to be careful not to be caught and tangled in the nets of idolatry.

The challenge and convicting word for me today, this week and the rest of my life is: Live pure, from a pure heart - acknowledging Jesus' strength, grace, love and passion for me. How I exemplify this lifestyle is my choosing - so today I choose to die to some pride I'm wrestling with in matters of recognition. There's an inner battle and wanting to be "somebody."

I quickly realize that my idolatry can be the idol of me. I REPENT LORD! I DIE to stricken pride within me, that I might live purely in thought, motive and heart. Ah-h-h-h-h...then I can exemplify You, with a smile, kind word or deed - from a Pure Heart!
Here I am Daddy God...
Your desperate son, longing to be more like You! I know that by Your love, grace, forgiveness and strength - I am live from a Pure Heart! I love You and thank You so much for Your obedience to the Cross and for being my Prayer Warrior!
