Fear of the Fight

John Tilton

Exodus 4:10-13

Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”

Prior to these scriptures, as God spoke to Moses, he showed him many miracles and manifestations of whom He was. You would have thought that Moses would have done anything, realizing that he was speaking to, called and appointed by God, and that God was telling him that God would guide him, enable him and show the Egyptians the same. Yet, Moses continued to be a doubter and tell God that he wasn’t capable, or that his people and Pharaoh wouldn’t believe him. Then, after all this dialogue and affirmations by God, Moses asks God to please send someone else. Wow, pretty disappointing.

Then, I think, are there times that I do that? Times where in my being a believer in Jesus Christ and knowing what I know about God, do I always follow through with what God asks of me? It may not be as huge as leading the people out of Egypt, but even in my daily life, are there things that I fail to follow through on what God has asked me to do in His word, knowing His will; because I don’t think that I am capable, fear the challenge or fight it will be, don’t feel I have the time or simply lack obedience? It’s the same as a lot of good reading, understanding, experience all being kept in a state of head knowledge rather then being obedient and following through; often feeling like, please send someone else to do it.

Dear Lord, help me with my obedience in following through with your will and call on my life; knowing that you will guide, gift and enable me to do what you call me to do; and even though I think it will be an accomplishment or victory, but fail, then I know your will was for me to experience and grow from the process. Thank you Lord.
