PASTORS' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Taking CommunionRichard Waialeale
1 Corinthians 11:28-29 (NIV)28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.
When I was a senior in high school, my older brother was killed in a car accident. This was a delicate time in my life because I remember how crushed our family was that day. For myself, I lived everyday thinking of my brother an how much I miss him. I often think of him as if it happened yesterday. I know he’s with Jesus but I can hardly wait for the day I get to see him again. Since then, I never take a single day that I get to live for Jesus for granted. The same must be with when I take communion.
Since then I have often prayed, ‘Lord, keep the memory of your death that fresh in me! Every time I partake of your memorial supper, let my heart be stirred as if it occurred only yesterday. I must never let the communion service become a mere formality, but always a tender and touching experience.’”
Lord I pray and thank you for your sacrifice that I might have life everlasting; forgiveness of my sins and that I can point people to Jesus. Amen.
