The Power of HopeJohn Tilton
Romans 5:1-5 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, wehave peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And weboast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but wealso glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Paul words to the people of the church in Rome at the time is so applicable to each and everyone of us today. It is so easy to let our challenging circumstances affect and define our being, outlook and actions. However, Paul clearly reminds us that as believers, we are justified and able to resolve ourselves to understanding and peace if we are able to remember and hold on to the victory of God's faithfulness and our faith in Him that He directs all things for our good. It is then that we can stand on the hope in Christ whereby He will work in and through us to give us perseverance and character; all of this manifested by the Holy Spirit working through us.
In times where I am working at capacity, my "A" type personality often leads me to stress that results in taskiness, often doubting the outcome the may lay ahead. However, these scriptures from Paul not only remind me but reassure me that I am justified by Christ and that I need to have the right perspective in my outlook on stressful or challening situations. That perspective and outlook is to be trust in Christ with faith that He has my best in mind and that I need to focus on what needs to be done with an attitude of perseverance that will thankfully develop my character and resolve. I then can claim the power that God affords me based on hope in Him and therefore work through all that life and responsibiility sends my way.
Dear Lord, thank you for often daily setting of my mind with the right perspective and stand of faith in order that I might garner and hold unto the hope you provide for me to deal with life and responsibility. I do look forward to the power of Hope in Christ.,
