What You See Is What You Get (Public Life)

Richard Waialeale

Colossians 4:4-6 (NIV) 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Paul says when in public or private that our lives be like Jesus, he describes it as perfection. Although I may not be able to be perfect like Christ, I can surely do the best I can. One of the ways I can do this (Paul says), is to be wise in the way I act, and let my conversation be full of grace. In the Old Testament, King Jehoshaphat allies with the evil king Ahab to war against the enemy Ramoth Gilead. King Jehoshaphat request that Ahab seek counsel before heading out to war. Ahab pulls together 400 of his own prophets or “yes” men. King Jehoshaphat sees through this weak situation and asks for another counsel. My observation is in the way Jehoshaphat reacts to this situation and that I can see his godly wisdom and communication to Ahab. He doesn’t bend into the ways of the world but I see God’s wisdom and not man’s.
Today’s reading is full of worldly and godly wisdom and the direction I choose to walk in. My faith in Jesus will be tested in the world and it’s how much I can be Jesus in the world without bending to it’s crooked influence. Choose to make my conversations full of grace.
Father I pray that You will work through me and live through me and serve through me. In Jesus Name. Amen.
