Psalm 127:1-2

1Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. 2In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to[a] those he loves.

In my life, I’ve often had great dreams and plans. Sometimes born of God, other times born of my own ambition. In each case, there was time to germinate, grow and mature. In the end though only the things of God have lasted.

It’s true that even plans based in the worst of motives can have success for a season. The foundations of those plans eventually erode though, and instead of reward I find I’m a slave to what was intended to serve. On the other hand, with God building and watching over HIS plans in my life, my success is secure.

Lord help me to better understand your will and direction. May my face be turned towards you so that you may bless my efforts for you.
