Godly Wisdom & Spiritual MaturityRichard Waialeale
"We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing." (1 Corinthians 2:6)
In the first two chapters of 1 Corinthians, Paul is talking about surrendering to God and His Wisdom, not the world's wisdom. Paul has grown in wisdom only because of attitude to allow the Spirit to lead. Paul gives us some check points on Spiritual Maturity and what wisdom is not:
- It's not age. Not about how long you've been a Christian, or how long you've been in the world. Not everybody who grows old, grows up.
- It's not appearance. It's not how you look. There is no spiritual look. Appearance has absolutely nothing to do with spirituality or wisdom. The Bible says "Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart."
- It's not achievement. Wisdom and Maturity is not a matter of what's you've accomplished. You can accomplish a lot and still lack wisdom and immaturity.
- It's not academics. Wisdom is not a matter of what you know. Some people think if a person has a lots of Bible knowledge they must have wisdom. That's not true. Wisdom and Spiritual Maturity is not a matter of head knowledge. Even Pharisees memorized the first five books of the Bible. They had tremendous head knowledge.
Paul tells us that Wisdom comes only from God and that maturity is a matter of attitude. Your attitude towards life and how you react to situations in life. In order to seek God's wisdom our attitude must always be facing towards what God is showing us, and not me first then seek God later. Spiritual maturity and Godly wisdom goes hand in hand when our attitude is to surrender to God and to seek Him first.
Thank you Lord for Your the wisdom of the ages. I pray for a humble heart to surrender to what You show me each day. I pray that through the examples of Paul, I remove my selfish ambition, and allow You to lead and not my stubborn attitude. Shape me and mold me into the person You want me to be, and help me to live this life by Your Will be done - In Jesus Name I Pray this. Amen.
