Many In This City

Tim Savage

"One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, "Don't be afraid! Speak out! Don't be silent! For I am with you, and no one will attack and harm you, for many people in this city belong to me." So Paul stayed there for the next year and a half, teaching the word of God." (Acts 18:9-11)
My wife, Mardi, and I have been doing some interesting research lately. We've been checking out Christians with feature film experience and it's been both enlightening and exciting to find believers. There are a lot very talented and respected people who have written, produced or directed big films or TV shows including Secretariat, The X-Men, The Good Wife, Kung Fu Panda, Shark's Tale, Ali, Bruce Almighty and Nixon, just to name a very few. This relates to the reading because the Lord told Paul, "Don't be afraid ... for many in this city belong to me."

Sometimes we aren't aware of the number of God-fearing and God-loving people surrounding us, especially as the world around us changes for the worse at an alarming rate. I am comforted by knowing that there are still many in this city that belong to God.
But the Lord's directions go much further than to just be comforted by that fact, He says "Speak out!" He wants us to be bold, step out in faith and share the gospel in the best way we know how. He is with us and strength and courage are ours for the asking. The more we know about fellow followers the stronger we are and together we can make a bigger kingdom difference. If you put a good screenwriter, together with a good producer and a good director, actors and crew, pretty soon you have a great... Well, you get the picture!
Dear Heavenly Father,

Please reveal Your followers to us so that we may be inspired and exhorted. Give us the courage to be bold and share Your story with the lost so that they may be saved.

In Jesus name,
